About

The Environmental Justice Community Partnership is a program initiative announced in February 2015 by the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s (SCAQMD) Governing Board Chairman Dr. William A. Burke. The Partnership, as it is referenced, is designed to strengthen relationships and build alliances with community members and organizations across the region with the goal of achieving clean air and healthy, sustainable communities for everyone.

SCAQMD, through the Partnership, will host a series of events with a special environmental justice (EJ) focus. These forums, training sessions, and other engaging outreach activities help broaden mutual awareness of EJ topics, and keep SCAQMD connected to the residents whom the agency serves, so together we can more effectively identify and address EJ issues impacting local Southland communities.

SCAQMD Environmental Justice Leader Recognition

The Environmental Justice Community Partnership was launched in 2015, to strengthen SCAQMD’s relationship with community groups and stakeholders. As part of this initiative, SCAQMD will host a series of Regional Environmental Justice Community Leaders Recognition Ceremonies, to highlight local environmental justice leaders who are seeking to improve the quality of life in their communities. The events will foster relationships between SCAQMD and the residents whom the Board represents, by broadening awareness of environmental justice relative to air quality, acknowledging current leaders, and expanding opportunities to identify problems and jointly seek solutions.
